Controlled Atmosphere — How It Works

Controlled atmosphere (CA) storage extends shelf life by reducing oxygen levels inside sealed storage rooms to 1–3% (compared to 21% in normal air) while managing CO₂ concentration. At these low oxygen levels, the respiration rate of fruit and vegetables drops dramatically — slowing ripening, reducing weight loss, and preserving texture, colour and nutritional value for months rather than weeks.

Isolcell has specialised in CA technology since 1958 and is one of Europe's most established manufacturers of atmosphere monitoring and gas management systems for the fresh produce industry.
